ABOUT US

VolunteerUA is a student-led initiative through the Associated Students of the University of Arizona. Our mission is to respond to the needs of the people by connecting the campus and community through intentional service opportunities. We prepare our students for lifelong citizenship and to be advocates of social change.

To accomplish our mission, we:

  • Serve as a clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities both on campus and in the greater community

  • Offer leadership opportunities to students interested in coordinating volunteer projects

  • Offer resources and personal contacts to agencies for students to gain a more comprehensive understanding of issues facing our community

  • Support and advocate for both the university and the community

  • Facilitate the volunteer matching process between students and community partners

  • Provide opportunities for continued service after events and graduation

By participating through VolunteerUA, participants will:

  • Exercise problem solving skills to address real-world social issues

  • Gain different perspectives on other's values and beliefs through exposure to diverse cultures and situations

  • View community as a priority when making life decisions

  • Obtain clarity in one's own values and belief system

  • Make connections between service opportunities and curricular/personal experiences resulting in continued engagement

  • Recognize critical social issues facing the local, national, and global community

  • Utilize leadership and organizational abilities in implementing volunteer projects for self and groups

  • Apply flexibility and adaptability with peers, administrators, and community partners

VolunteerUA's program goals are designed using Kolb's Learning Styles and Experiential Learning Cycle featured on right. We believe that this model illustrates the process by which UA students will engage in service and civic engagement.
